Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Over the last few days I’ve been expressing my creativity through paint. I’ve never taken any classes, and I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing, which is why I love painting. It eases me into a state of relaxation, a place where no one can judge me, and various interpretations are accepted.

When I begin a painting, I envision my inspiration for that moment. As I paint, I keep envisioning a variety of inspirational items, which usually leads to abstract and intriguing paintings, such as this one.

The eyes we’re my base, and then I drifted out into my own world of thoughts, feelings, creative expressions, ideas and images. They’re all crammed into my mind, but when I paint they seem to gracefully and abstractly escape.

No one could possibly understand my feelings by analyzing this painting, but it allows me to gain a personal release of my emotions.

Playing around with the texture and consistency of paint exercises my creativity and fascination with the art. Unfortunately, my readers can’t see the true detail and texture of this painting, which reveals the mesmerizing effect. But maybe I’ll post some close-up pictures in the future.

I’m in love with this one. And I’m going to have it framed. My friends and boyfriend like it, but only I can see deep into the soul of this painting, which gives me complete satisfaction and emotional release every time I set my eyes upon it.

Ugly Duckling Delicious Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookie

As I mentioned previously, I’ve decided to try out the Paleo diet and will be posting some of my favorite Paleo finds while I conquer this journey in my life!Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite thing in the world. At first thought, chocolate chip cookies were going to be banned from my Paleo life. (Stubborn and determined to try it out, I was somehow OK with this) BUT, we’ve gotten back together!I researched some Paleo cookie recipes and after trying some type of almond butter cookie I was disappointed with the results and feared I would really never encounter my warm chewy, gooey, delicious chocolate chip friends again.

Then I found www.paleomg.com and it saved my life! I anxiously tried out her recipe for Giant Vanilla Bean Chocolate Chunk Cookies (nut free). When I pulled them out of the oven they seemed slightly burnt, which demoralized me a bit. Turns out, I’ve noticed that many Paleo baked goods have the tendency to burn very quickly but taste amazing regardless. (Tonight I made breakfast burgers for dinner… Paleo pancakes as the buns, natural grape jelly, juicy hamburger, and sunny-side-up eggs! Ahh :) The pancakes were black, but delicious.) My boyfriend says we need to work on the aesthetic aspect of Paleo cooking, hence the ugly duckling reference.

So, I poured a nice glass of almond milk and carefully dipped the gooey cookie inside, and then plopped it into my mouth. Heaven. Paleo Heaven. So here is the recipe…

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sunflower seed butter
  • 1/3 cup raw honey
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • slightly more than 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinammon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup or more of Enjoy Mega Life Chocolate Chips or Chunks

(PaleOMG also uses 1 vanilla bean stem, split lengthwise and the baby beans removed, but I couldn’t find it at the store so I just added a slight amount more of vanilla extract.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (less/more depending on how well you know your oven… my college apartment oven seems like the 9th layer of hell compared to my oven at home)
  2. Place all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well (I used my trust KitchenAid Mixer and the white hook attachment)
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  4. Scoop out dollops of cookie mix according to how big you’d like your cookies. Space out so cookies don’t form together.
  5. Bake 18-20 minutes, but again, KNOW YOUR OVEN!! I baked mine for 18 minutes and they were slightly burnt.
  6. In my opinion, let cool just enough so they’re safe to grab and pour a nice glass of almond milk.

ENJOY!!! Isn’t Paleo fun? :) mmm

Another Brick In The Wall

Music plays a huge role in my life. I’ve always thought it would be super cool to be a rockstar, but considering I don’t play any instruments and shouldn’t be allowed to sing, I don’t see that happening any time soon! Nevertheless, I’m still very passionate about listening to it and am constantly discovering new songs/artists.

I just started interning at Michelle Roche Media Relations as a PR/Marketing Intern and couldn’t be more excited about it!

Sunday night, I went out to Atlanta to see The Machine, one of Michelle’s clients, perform at the Variety Playhouse. If you haven’t heard of them yet, they perform a cover of Pink Floyd and according to my boyfriend, are spot on with their instrumental techniques.

I love classic rock, but I’ve never been a huge Pink Floyd fan, so before the concert I did some homework and listened to some of their songs on Spotify. Sadly, I wasn’t too thrilled about the show and didn’t quite understand all the rage about Pink Floyd.

Still a music fanatic, I thought I would give them a try anyway. Plus, Michelle got me onto the band’s guest list. How cool is that? I must say it was pretty awesome when they let me in just by showing my driver’s license.

Being a Sunday night, the crowd wasn’t too heavy, but still pretty decent. My boyfriend walked me up to the front amongst the fans that enjoy moving to the music and getting the full effect of the speaker system.

About halfway through the song I found myself moving to the music as well and starting to enjoy it more and more. I nudged my way a little closer after a few songs, and then got a little lost in it all.

Not only were the vocals and instrumental techniques amazing, but the lights were also quite impressive. I arrived fairly skeptical and left wanting to download some Pink Floyd songs, so I’d say it was a successful night.

They’re currently on tour, so be sure to check them out if they come near you! You definitely won’t be disappointed.

If you don’t know what Pink Floyd looks like, (I sure don’t) it’s a nice little trip to the past. Just close your eyes, move to the music and pretend you’re watching one of Pink Floyd’s first performances at a classic theater downtown. Check out this link to see when The Machine will be near you! http://www.themachinelive.com/tour/

Also, here’s an example of the kind of things I’ll be doing at my internship. This is a short article written by the company I’ll be interning for! http://www.ajc.com/news/entertainment/music/tribute-bands-offer-affordable-alternative/nTpfs/

Getting Back in the Swing of Things!

Hello!!

So sorry I haven’t been posting regularly, I’ll try to post at least a few times a week from now on! So this is what has been going on since before New Years…

- The wedding was beautiful and having a soft-spot for true love, I cried during the ceremony..

- NYE was awesome and my boyfriend’s friends are the most amazing people ever and I’m so happy they are a part of my life now. I can’t wait to move to D.C. for the summer after I hopefully get an internship there.

- Speaking of D.C., I just applied for the PRSSA Washington, D.C. Agency Tour. It’s this really awesome trip they host and they take 16 members around D.C. to meet UGA alumni, PR professionals, government officials, and to take tours of huge PR firms and nonprofit organizations. I spent hours perfecting the 200 word essay I had to write to apply, so wish me luck!

- Also, I now have an internship in Athens, Ga (where I attend the University of Georgia) with Michelle Roche Media Relations! How exciting is that? (that comment will be much funnier after you watch this silly video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm3JodBR-vs) Later today I am going to see one of her clients, The Machine, perform. They’re a perfect cover of Pink Floyd. I’ll post some more about that tomorrow after I’ve seen the show!

- Lastly, my boyfriend and I have decided to try out the Paleo diet. It seems awful at first, but once you realize all the amazing things you can make with healthy, paleo-friendly substitutes, it’s actually really wonderful. If you’re thinking about trying it, check out http://punchfork.com/paleo and http://paleomg.com/ for some seriously delicious and healthy recipes! I’ll probably be posting some of my favorites pretty soon.

Christmas to NYE

We all survived Christmas! Personally, I got some awesome presents from “Santa.” That’s a real benefit of having younger siblings that still believe! Now all the Christmas chaos is over and I have some time to myself, but only briefly! Tomorrow my family is heading up to the mountains for my aunt’s wedding and then on the 30th I’m off to Washington, D.C. to make sure I get my NYE kiss from my wonderful boyfriend. I probably won’t be posting often for awhile with all the traveling and then school starting up again, but I’ll try to update the blog regularly once classes start back up!

Looking for the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit?! Check out this website I found (too late to buy one for myself, but if you have a special event or special someone to impress this is the place to look!!) http://lafemmefashion.com/cocktail_dresses

Christmas Break

I’m all for the traditional Christmas songs, but this one by Mariah Carey really touches my heart. It’s the perfect song to share with that special someone over the holidays…its sweet, yet upbeat and fun. Absolutely love it!
